Brentwood Gang Murder Suspects Plead Guilty

Two reputed members of the Ñetas street gang from Florida have admitted to their roles in killing two 17-year-old alleged members of a rival gang in Brentwood 10 years ago this summer.

Alvaro “Boobie” Cabral, 28, and Jason “J-Live” Cabral, 36, pleaded guilty to murder Monday before Judge Joanna Seyburt at Brooklyn federal court. Alvaro’s girlfriend at the time, 29-year-old Stephanie DiCarlo-Cabral, pleaded guilty to robbery and gun charges in connection with the case.

“The defendants stuffed the victims into the trunk of a car in the dog days of August, and then drove them to their execution,” said Loretta Lynch, U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of New York.

Prosecutors said Jason Cabral, the alleged leader of gang, lured Anthony Marcano to a house in Brentwood, where he arrived with Fabian Mestres, a fellow “Pee Wee” member of the Latin Kings street gang on Aug. 10, 2004.

The victims were tied up with duct tape and robbed of their drugs, money and jewelry before they were stuffed into the trunk of a car, authorities said.

The suspects drove the victims to another location where another suspect, Luis “Lae” Benitez, allegedly shot them both in the head with a shotgun with the help of Alvaro Cabral, prosecutors said. The victims’ bodies were found dumped behind a warehouse in Queens the next day.

Benitez has pleaded not guilty and is awaiting trial. All three face up to life imprisonment or the death penalty.
