Students at the Jonas E. Salk Middle School in Levittown have supported the United Cerebral Palsy of Nassau County, Inc’s Trivia Challenge Contest for over 20 years. Each year the National Junior Honor Society conducts a contest for students in grades 6-8.
Students compete in teams of four to answer 100 questions on diverse academic and cultural topics. The winning teams, a grade 6 team and a grade 7- 8 team, then represent Salk at the countywide contest at the UCPN Roosevelt Center. Students participating are encouraged to bring in monetary contributions to sponsor them in the contest.
Over the years, Salk students have contributed significant amounts of money to UCPN. This year, students raised over $2,500 in support of UCPN’s research and equipment. The students are rewarded by UCPN with individual prizes based on the individual’s contribution. In recognition of Salk’s efforts, Salk has been recognized with an Award of Excellence. This plaque is prominently displayed in the school’s main office.
In the past, Salk students have won the county competition, enabling them to house the winning trophy in the school for the year.
Winners this year include:
Grade six: Declan Gillespie, Mairead Gillespie, Jason Razzo, and Vlad Rudnick
Grade eight: Timothy Konovitch, Jared Schwartz, Robert Wright, and Andrew Zabatta.
These students will represent Salk at the February competition. They are anxious to return the trophy to Salk once again.

The United Cerebral Palsy Association of Nassau County, Inc. has been assisting individuals with disabilities since 1948.
