The team will advance to the state competition in April
Based on their strong performance at the Western Long Island Regional Competition on Feb. 8, the Hicksville Middle School Science Olympiad team will compete in the New York State competition in Rochester on April 4 and 5.
The team competed in 22 events at the regional competition, with topics ranging from anatomy to wheeled vehicle construction, and ranked fifth overall out of 41 teams. Farzeen Siddique and Srishti Tyagi earned first-place medals for their “Simple Machines” challenge.
The team members are Amith Anugu, Neeloy Bose, Sebica Katel, Manpreet Kaur, Michal Lewkowicz, Aaron Li, Navneet Lingola, Salaiha Mughal, Cara Noetzel, Farzeen Siddique, Jason Soe, Dirac Tien, Alexis Tuvilla, Srishti Tyagi and Pacy Yan. Alternates are Catherine Chen, Ryan Meyer and Ohm Patel.
