On Tuesday, March 18, Floral Park will hold village elections from noon to 9 p.m. at the Floral Park Recreation Center. Village trustee and member of the Floral Park Citizens’ Party Kevin Fitzgerald is seeking re-election. The following was submitted by the Citizens’ Party:
Kevin M. Fitzgerald was born and raised in Brooklyn where he attended Xaverian High School. He then went on to Pace University where he graduated in 1989 with a B.B.A in Operations Management. During his summers in high school, Fitzgerald was a volunteer counselor at Catholic Charities Operation F.U.N., a daily summer camp in Brooklyn providing recreational activities for persons with developmental disabilities.
Fitzgerald and his wife, Jennifer, have been 12-year homeowners in the North End. Jennifer is the former president of the Wednesday Mother’s Club, and treasurer of the OLV Home School Association. They have two children, Caitlin, who attends Our Lady of Victory School and James who attends John Lewis Childs.
Fitzgerald is an executive director at JP Morgan Chase.
He started to become active in local issues in joining the fight against the MTA’s LIRR endeavor to add a third track on the mainline. Fitzgerald attended and spoke at numerous LIRR Commuter Council president’s forums while also attending several open MTA board meetings. He also provided insight and research into why the additional track was not an acceptable use of taxpayers’ money.
Prior to his appointment as village trustee in April 2011, Fitzgerald was the secretary of the North End Civic Association since 2007 and had been a member of the village’s grievance board since 2008, while serving as its chairman since 2009.
During his tenure on the village board, he has served as the library commissioner, park commissioner, liaison to 4 Village Studios (as well as serving as an occasional host), liaison to the Hillcrest Civic Association and liaison to the Beautification Committee.
Fitzgerald and his family continue to be active members of the Our Lady of Victory Parish where he has served on a number of committees including the Children’s Liturgy committee. In addition, he also continues to enjoy coaching in the Floral Park Screaming Eagles Roller Hockey league. In running for re-election, Fitzgerald has said that he continues to be excited about serving the residents of Floral Park and “ensuring that our community continues to be a great place to live, work and raise a family.” And if re-elected it would continue to be a privilege to serve the residents of Floral Park for another two years.
