On Friday, Feb. 7 and Saturday, Feb. 8 the Manhasset Boys Swim Team competed in Nassau County’s overall team championships. At Friday’s preliminaries, the Indians swam well enough to qualify most of their entrants and all three relays for Saturday’s finals.
Saturday’s county finals began with the 1-meter diving championships that were rescheduled due to weather. Manhasset diver, junior Chris Carrozzo , finished 6th, earning All-Conference honors.
At Saturday’s swim finals, in the days opening event, the 200yd medley team consisting of Conor Beil, Sean Earley, Jeff McNeary and Mike Perulli finished 7th in a season best time of 1:48.17. Throughout the meet, Manhasset swimmers posted many personal best times and set three new additional team records.
In the next event, the 200yd Freestyle, sophomore Conor Beil finished 5th in a new school record time of 1:48.99.
Junior Jeff McNeary set a new school record in the 100yd Backstroke, finishing 6th in a time of 56.81.
In the day’s final event, the 400yd Free Relay team of Jeff McNeary, Conor Beil, Sean Earley and Mike Perulli set a new school record, finishing 5th in a time of 3:28.18 (2009, 3:31.18 Max Smitham, Paul Faglione, Stephen Cobos and Brian Tam). When the team scores were read, Manhasset finished with a point total of 204 points to finish 7th in Nassau out of 26 teams.
Additional Highlights from the two-day County meet include:
Senior Connor Lee swam a 2:01.02 in the 200yd Freestyle and a 5:27.78 in the 500yd Freestyle. Robert Godfried swam a 2:01.84 in the 200yd Freestyle and a 58.53 in the 100yd Butterfly.
Junior Jeff McNeary swam a 4:56.38 in the 500yd Freestyle and a 51.77 in the 100yd Freestyle. Sean Earley swam a 23.52 in the 50yd Freestyle and 51.89 in the 100yd Freestyle.
Sophomore Conor Beil swam a 56.82 in the 100yd Backstroke. Michael Perulli swam a 53.96 in the 100yd Freestyle and a 1:00.72 in the 100yd Backstroke. Matt Alonso swam a 1:01.42 in the 100yd Butterfly.
The 200yd Free Relay team consisting of Maxwell Hu, Tyler Lew, Jack Wesson, Connor Lee and Robert Godfried swam a time of 1:39.79 to finish 14th in Nassau County.
