Jewels By Jar
The Plainview-Old Bethpage Library is offering residents a bus trip to the Metropolitan Museum of Art to view Jewels By Jar, featuring the work of acclaimed 20th Century jewelry designer Joel A. Rosenthal. The luxury bus trip departs the library at 8:30 a.m. and leaves the city at 3 p.m. The trip costs $45 per person and includes transportation and museum admission. Pet Store Grand Opening
A new pet store is opening its doors in the Plainview Centre and welcoming residents to the celebration. Choice Pet invites one and all to join the fun from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 381 South Oyster Bay Rd. Attendees can enter to win prizes, including gift bags and baskets and even a year’s supply of pet food from NutriSource. Prize drawings are every half hour and there will also be face painting, fun and games, refreshments and demos. Forgotten Friends Animal Rescue will be on hand with some adoptable animals and Leeana Karlson from K-Joy will be doing a live remote broadcast. Bring the kids, the pets and have some fun. Rockin’ For Autism
The Developmental Disabilities Institute will once again be heating things up with Long Island’s best rock-n-roll bands to benefit children and adults with autism and other developmental disabilities at Mulcahy’s Pub and Music Hall in Wantagh on Sunday, March 9 at 3 p.m. For a $30 donation guests will enjoy the sounds of legendary local bands, gift baskets auction, raffles, food, cash bar and the company of hundreds of fellow Long Islanders. An all -star lineup of legendary Long Island bands including 1 Step Ahead, The Cold Spring Harbor Band paying tribute to Billy Joel, 3, and Generation will be set to hit the stage. The Plainview library presents “Forever Free: Lincoln, the Civil War and the American March to Emancipation” with James L. Bowl For The Cure
Back by popular demand, Bowl for the Cure returns to the AMF Plainview Bowl, 500 Old Bethpage Rd., March 16 from 2:30 to 5 p.m. Bosom Buddies invites attendees for two hours of bowling, free shoe rental, hot pretzels, raffles and more. Hadassah Film Festival
Come down to the Plainview-Old Bethpage Library auditorium at 1 p.m. March 18 for a film festival featuring Twin Sisters. The film tells the story of twin German sisters, Lotte and Anna, separated at a young age. After the death of their parents, they are “divided” between quarreling distant relatives, one being raised in the Netherlands and the other in Germany. As well as a national difference, they also undergo a sharp class differentiation. Lotte is raised by a rather affluent, middle-class intellectual family in Amsterdam, Anna by a poor Catholic peasant family in a backward area, where in the 1930s the Nazi Party seems to offer young people the only chance of social mobility.
