Cops ID Man Found Dead in Miller Place

Suffolk County police Thursday identified the man who was found dead in Miller Place a day earlier as 19-year-old Sidney Valverde of Jamaica, Queens.

Valverde, whose body was discovered on Wednesday lying on the sand in front of the Miller Beach Surf Club by a passerby, had suffered a “significant head injury,” police said in a news release.  The exact cause of death has yet to be determined, a Suffolk police spokeswoman said.

It’s still unclear how long Valverde had been dead before he was discovered.

Police were called to the Harbor Beach Road beach club around 4:30 p.m. when a man looking for driftwood came upon the body, police said.

A preliminary investigation by the Suffolk County Medical Examiner’s office determined that Valverde had been a “victim of violence,” police said.

The investigation into his death is continuing. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call the Homicide Squad at 631-852-6392 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
