An ex-Long Islander who spent a dozen years as an international fugitive has been sentenced to as many years in prison for killing an 80-year-old woman in a Westbury hit-and-run in 2001.

Sebastian Barba had pleaded guilty Tuesday to assault and leaving the scene of an incident without reporting before Nassau County Court Judge Angelo Delligatti.

Prosecutors said the 36-year-old former Hicksville man drove his Cadillac into Jean Renison, who was crossing Post Avenue at the corner of Maple Avenue, slammed on the brakes to force her off the hood and then slowly ran over the victim’s head and chest on Feb. 6, 2001.

Barba then fled the scene and returned to his native Ecuador, where he has dual citizenship, before a grand jury indicted him. Extradition was impossible because the Ecuadorean constitution states that no Ecuadorean national can be extradited to another country, authorities noted.

Barba, who was featured in an episode of America’s Most Wanted in 2005, was apprehended by Panamanian authorities on an INTERPOL warrant in 2012 on a flight from the Dominican Republic to Ecuador.
