Former lifelong Port Washington resident William J. Brunola passed away peacefully on March 1, in Jupiter, FL. He was 86 years old.
Bill was born on Aug. 19, 1927, to Sam and Jennie Brunola, who immigrated to Port Washington from Italy. He graduated from Port Washington High School in 1945. He had musical talents, playing the French horn and the trumpet, but sports were his true love. He was a star baseball and basketball player, but Bill will always be remembered for being an excellent golfer. It truly was his life’s passion.
Bill met and married Esther Mayberry of Glasgow, Scotland in 1958.
Together they raised three children in the home they shared on Willowdale Ave. for over 50 years. Bill had a long career as a Superintendent for JD Posillico, Inc., managing the asphalt division. After their retirement, Bill and Esther settled in Jupiter, FL, in 2006.
Bill spent is retirement playing golf, watching NY Giants football and enjoying time with family and friends. Being born and raised in Port Washington, Bill had many lifelong friends and neighbors. When he moved to Florida, he said the hardest part was saying goodbye to the people who knew him best.
Bill was predeceased by his loving wife Esther and his sister, Marion Russo. He is survived by his children, Jenifer Carter and Laura Brunola of Jupiter, FL, Sam (Kelley) Brunola of Tybee Island, GA, his beloved grandchildren, Aiden and Gillian, his sister, Virginia Ban and many nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly.
Funeral arrangements were handled by Aycock-Riverside Funeral Home in Jupiter, FL. After a Mass of Celebration, held at St Peter Catholic Church in Jupiter, Bill and Esther were laid to rest together at South Florida National Cemetery in Lake Worth, FL.
