Levittown Public Schools Budget Session

The fourth planning session on the proposed 2014-2015 Levittown School District budget will be held on March 19, at 7:30 p.m., at the Levittown Memorial Education Center, located at 150 Abbey Lane. 

 

Island Trees Budget Workshop

The next workshop on the proposed 2014-2015 Island Trees School District budget will be held on March 19, from 7-10 p.m. at the Stephen E. Karopczyc school, located at 74 Farmedge Road. 

 

Whose Line Island Trees

The Island Trees Dollars for Scholars program invite the community to this family friendly evening with comedians Isaccs and Baker, on March 19, at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for students. All the proceeds raised will go to benefit the Island Trees Dollars for Scholars program. Dollars for Scholars is a non-profit organization that provides scholarship opportunities to graduating Island Trees High School seniors wishing to continue their education. On March 20, at 7 p.m., the Island Trees High School will induct honor students who have excelled in a foreign language. 

 

Levittown PTA Council

The next meeting of the Levittown School District PTA Council will be held at 7:30 p.m., on March 20, at the Levittown Memorial Education Center. 

 

Friday, March 21

Advocacy Training

The ELIJA School in Levittown will be holding a workshop with Pete Wright Esq. on March 21, from 8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m. Wrightslaw special education law and advocacy training programs are designed to meet the needs of parents, advocates, attorneys, educators, health care providers, and others who represent the interest of children with disabilities and their families. The training program will focus on four areas, including: special education law, tests and measuring progress and regression, SMART IEP’s, and strategies and tactics for effective advocacy.

Explorer Post Dinner

Explorer Post 690 of the Wantagh Fire Department will host a Pasta Dinner, on March 23, from 4-7 p.m. The festivities will be held at Wantagh Fire Department Station No. 1, at 3470 Park Ave. in Wantagh. The dinner will consist of salad, pasta, meatballs, cake, soda and coffee, and costs $10 for adults and $5 for children under 12. Proceeds raised from the dinner will be used to offset expenses incurred by the Explorers as they participate in yearly activities and to become future firefighters of the Wantagh Fire Department.

Island Trees PTSA

The next meeting of the Island Trees School District PTSA will be held on March 25, at 7 p.m. inside the Memorial Middle School. 

 

Island Trees Public Library Board

The next meeting of the Island Trees Public Library Board of Trustees will be held on March 25 at 8 p.m.

Active Parenting Of Teens

Families In Action is a six session family program developed around the premise that parents and teens are more likely to learn successfully when they learn together. Teens and parents will spend part of the time in separate groups learning complementary skills and then come together for discussion of the skills learned. The YES Community Counseling Center will be holding this six session Active Parenting of Teens: Families in Action program on March 26, from 7-8:30 p.m. at the YES offices, located at 152 Center Lane in Levittown. ProSports Power Breakfast

On March 29, join the Island Tress PTSA, from 9-10:30 a.m., for an informative, fun, and free breakfast at the Island Trees Memorial Middle School. 

 

Sunday, March 30

Pancake Breakfast

On March 30, the Ladies Auxiliary of the Wantagh Fire Department will host a Pancake Breakfast at their headquarters, at 3470 Park Ave. in Wantagh. Breakfast will be served between 8-11 a.m. for a donation of $6 per person, or $3 per child under the age of 9. Start your Sunday morning with a delcious home-cooked breakfast of pancakes with syrup, bacon, sausage and orange juice. Complete your meal with a cup of coffee or tea and a home-cooked breakfast cake or muffin. A portion of the proceeds from this event will be donated to assist in sending a severely burned child between the ages of 8 and 18 to summer camp at the Children’s Burn Camp. Bel Canto Chorale

Singing in Nassau County for over 40 years, Bel Canto Chorale welcomes new members. Each year, the chorale performs two major concerts and a benefit concert. All soloists are selected from within the membership. All voices are invited to rehearsals on Sundays from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Wantagh Memorial Congregational Church, 1845 Wantagh Ave., Wantagh. Korean War Veterans of NC Chapter #1 

Monthly meeting on the third Monday of every month (except July and August) at American Legion Post #1711, 3123 N. Jerusalem Rd., Levittown. Call 516-334-1025. KWVA is seeking all who served in the U.S. Armed Forces and UN Command during the Korean War between Sept. 3, 1945 to Jan. 31, 1955 or Feb. 1, 1955 to the present. You did not have to have served in Korea to be a member.

 

 Faith On Tap

The object of “Faith on Tap” is to address concerns of people in their 20s and 30s on issues of faith and morals, which have an impact on the lives of individuals, families, local communities and society at large. 7 to 9 p.m. on the last Monday of the month at the Wantagh Inn, across the street from the Wantagh railroad station. Admission is free. Call 516-378-0665. Not held in December, May, June, July or August.

 

 

Knights Of Columbus Holy Innocents Council #3581 

Meets on the first and third Wednesday of each month at the council headquarters, 3581 Jeffries Rd., Levittown, at 8 p.m. The newly renovated meeting hall is also available for party rentals. Call 516-735-1724 for rentals.

 

Hotline For Addicts & Friends

Anyone with a loved one suffering from addiction knows all too well that it affects more than just the person addicted; everyone close to the addict feels the effects. Residents of Nassau County who are affected by drug or alcohol addiction are urged to call the county department of drug and alcohol addiction’s free, anonymous 24/7 hotline, run by Long Island Crisis Center, at 516-481-4000.
