Active Parenting Of Teens
Families In Action is a six session family program developed around the premise that parents and teens are more likely to learn successfully when they learn together. Teens and parents will spend part of the time in separate groups learning complementary skills and then come together for discussion of the skills learned. The YES Community Counseling Center will be holding this six session Active Parenting of Teens: Families in Action program on March 26, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the YES offices, located at 152 Center Lane in Levittown. Getting It Together: Three One-Act Plays
The Township Theatre Group presents “Getting It Together: Three One-Act Plays” at the Plainview-Old Bethpage Library at 8 p.m. It is a program with a little drama, a little mystery and a lot of humor with acts including Some Assembly Required by Linda Delmonico Prussen, Mother’s Day by Donald Steele and Living Arrangements by Laura Pedersen.
Cupcake Party
The Plainview-Old Bethpage Library, 999 Old Country Rd., hosts a teen program with ever-blossom flower chocolate cupcakes. This program for children in grades five through 12, allos tweens and teens to create yummy chocolate cupcakes using butter cream, vanilla, chocolate, wafer cookies and a dollup of fondant in the center. Cardiac Kids Heart Hero
The American Heart Association, 125 East Bethpage Rd. in Plainview, hosts a Cardiac Kids event from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. In attendance will be 2013 Long Island Heart Walk ambassadors Gabriella and Gianna Eaderoso, who, along with their parents, will share their story and introduce the 2014 Long Island Heart Walk ambassador, Jack Foley. A light brunch and refreshments will be served. There will also be prizes and give-a-ways. Free Practice ACT Exam
The Syosset Public Library hosts a practice ACT Exam March 30 from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. presented by Chyten of Long Island. Teens can take a free practice exam; bring pencils and a calculator. Concerned Citizens
The Concerned Citizens of the Plainview-Old Bethpage Community, Inc. are announced its upcoming Spring Community Forum featuring guest presenters from PSEG, the community’s new utility company, and the Sustainability Institute of Molloy College. The forum will be held at the Plainview Public Library from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Monday, March 31 in the lower level meeting room. This informative program will be followed by a question and answer period. Light refreshments will be served and all attendees will be entered into a raffle drawing for a free CO Detector for their home. Holocaust Survivor Group
This community meeting group at the Plainview-Old Bethpage Library, 999 Old Country Rd., welcomes second-generation Holocaust survivors to share their unique experiences of growing up as children of Holocaust survivors. Hiking Long Island
The Plainview library presents Hiking Long Island with Lee McAllister at 7:30 p.m. in the auditorium. McAllister, naturalist, photographer and author of Hiking Long Island takes guests on a guided tour of the many hiking opportunities available on the island. The lecture encompasses the geology, history (natural and human,) flora, fauna and topographical features that make Long Island such an interesting place to hike in any season. Israeli Movie Night
The Mid-Island Y JCC, 45 Manetto Hill Rd., hosts Israeli movie night April 3 at 7 p.m. Free and open to the community, the night features the film “The Children of the USSR.” In the film, Slava, a young Russian immigrant, and his friends feel out of place and frustrated in the harsh setting of a small desert town in southern Israel. The Route of the Maya
The Plainview library presents this lecture hosted by Carole and Richard Witkover at 7:30 p.m. No one knows why the highly developed Mayan civilization, which dates from 2000 B.C. in Central America, quickly collapsed into small farming villages. Come along and visit colorful cities, still showing damage from centuries-old earthquakes. Visit rural Mayan villages and climb ancient temple pyramids as you experience this multimedia travel show. Serving the Plainview-Old Bethpage and Bethpage communities since 1957, the Lions Club holds dinner meetings on the second Wednesday of every month. The Lions Club strives to make a difference in local communities and encourages residents to come in and voice their concerns.
