Jericho Lane Closures Begin

106107Drivers should expect single travel lane closures of the Northern State Parkway in the vicinity of Route 106/107 in Jericho as crews extend the eastbound and westbound entrance ramps to the parkway.

A single eastbound NSP travel lane will be closed each night 11 p.m. and 6 a.m., Sunday through Thursday. Once work is completed in the eastbound direction, a single NSP lane in the westbound direction will be closed between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. Sunday through Thursday, weather permitting.  These NSP single lane closures are expected to be in effect throughout the month of April, weather permitting.

These are two of 19 locations that will be improved under NYSDOT’s $4 million motorist improvement project. Once the concrete barrier is positioned at these locations, additional NSP lane closures will not be required as all construction will take place off-road, behind the concrete barrier.

“The New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) appreciates the patience and cooperation of motorists and businesses while these safety improvements are undertaken to help improve mobility and safety for motorists in this high traffic area,” said the department in a statement.

As with most road improvement work, this operation is weather dependent and may be canceled, postponed, or prolonged due to inclement weather.  Emergency service providers and local officials have been notified of these nightly travel lane closures. Motorists are being warned in advance of the closings via electronic road signs, but should plan ahead and use alternate routes to avoid delays.
