Weber’s sixth, seventh and eighth grade students have been working diligently to produce their spring musical production of Footloose, set for April 4-6. With a talented group of over 100 cast, crew, and pit members, they plan to bring back the 1980’s in a big way.
The show tells the story of average city teenager Ren McCormack (played by eighth grader Jack Gilsenan), who enjoys dancing his days away.
Ren and his mother are forced to move to the small town of Bomont to live with his aunt and uncle where there are no such things as secrets and dancing is against the law. Ren sets out to bring back fun and dancing to the town with the aid of the preacher’s rebellious daughter Ariel Moore (played by eighth grader Sarah Mannix).
He faces bullies and biased adults in one whirlwind of an adventure. Footloose features many hit songs from the 1980’s including: “Holding Out for a Hero,” “Almost Paradise,” “Let’s Hear It For The Boy,” and the title song “Footloose.”
This year’s production is directed by eighth grade Weber Middle School English teacher Stacey Portmore-Davies, musically directed by Salem Elementary School’s music teacher Allison Friedman, and choreographed by Stacey Baker, a fourth grade teacher also from Salem Elementary.
Performances will be held in Weber Middle School’s auditorium on Friday, April 4, at 7 p.m.; Saturday, April 5, at 7 p.m.; and Sunday, April 6, at 3 p.m.
General admission tickets are $5, students and senior citizens are $3, and children under five are free.
