The photograph of the month from the Port Washington-based Photography Club of Long Island (PCLI) is “Baxter Pond Blossom” by member Matthew Arnold. Arnold’s work was shown at the Sands Point Preserve’s Hempstead House during its fall Designer Showhouse.
He has presented his photojournal of everyday life at the World Trade Center in the 1980’s, “Before September 11th,” at the Port Washington Public Library.
Arnold is both an artist and photographer, with visual interpretation of our surroundings the core of his artistic interests for most of his life. In his photography, he focuses on composition, lighting and perspective to transform the common place into the unusual.
For Arnold, “being in the moment” means letting his eyes discover an interesting aspect or nuance of what he sees. His retirement has afforded him numerous opportunities to use his artistic and imaging skills.
