Residents for a More Beautiful Port Washington’s annual gala was an overwhelming success, drawing 220 guest including several area politicians, to salute Friends of Port Rowing.
Residents’ Chairman Curt Trinko opened up with a speech after the cocktail hour, saying “I am proud that Port Washington is on the cutting edge of environmental sustainability due to many projects, programs and partnerships that Residents has cultivated and sustained for 46 years.
The civic group has paved trails, fought an incinerator, planned parks and gardens, touched thousands of students and helped create one of the most sophisticated ground water management tools, Trinko said.
A highlight of the evening came from Jim Avena, who is the grant administrator for the Peter and Jeri Dejana Foundation. He presented the Friends of Port Rowing’s Board of Directors with a $10,000 check.
A video featured what the Friends of Port Rowing is about. The organization is a nonprofit entity providing student athlete rowers from Schreiber High School and Weber Middle School in Port Washington, as well as rowers from the surrounding schools and towns, the opportunity to be part of a club crew team, the first ever in Port Washington.
An annual highlight discussed for this organization will be the third annual “Row for Autism Regatta” in April. Information on Friends of Port Rowing can be found at www.portrowing.com/
