Manhasset Doc Named Executive

belucciNorth Shore University Hospital (NSUH) announced the appointment of Manhasset resident Alessandro Bellucci, MD, as executive director of North Shore University Hospital (NSUH).

“We are fortunate to have an individual of Dr. Bellucci’s caliber and reputation to head North Shore University Hospital during the exciting — yet challenging — years ahead,” said Michael J. Dowling, president and chief executive officer of the North Shore-LIJ Health System. “Having joined the hospital medical staff in 1982 and practicing here for nearly 32 years, Dr. Bellucci is uniquely qualified to assume this important leadership post, given his extensive insight and understanding of the hospital and its staff.”

Dr. Bellucci, a nephrologist and associate professor of medicine at the Hofstra North Shore-LIJ School of Medicine, previously served as NSUH’s medical director and has held numerous leadership positions over the years with the Division of Nephrology and Department of Medicine at NSUH and LIJ Medical Center.

He received his medical degree from the University of Medicine and Surgery in Florence, Italy, and completed his residency at a New York University-affiliated residency program in New York City.  After completing clinical and research fellowships in nephrology at NSUH, Dr. Bellucci joined the hospital’s medical staff in 1982 and has practiced there for nearly 32 years.

Succeeding Dr. Bellucci as medical director is Dr. Gitman, who has served as NSUH’s associate medical director since early 2013, working on a number of important administrative and clinical initiatives. He has led hospital quality, safety and patient throughput initiatives, and supported clinical departments as a liaison to hospital administration. As medical director, he is responsible for overseeing medical affairs, quality management, patient safety and standards of care. Dr. Gitman earned a BA in psychology from Columbia University, and his medical degree from SUNY Health Science Center in Syracuse. He completed his internship, residency and fellowship in nephrology at Mount Sinai Medical Center. He is a resident of Port Washington, NY.
