On March 29, women were invited to attend the second annual Women’s Symposium, Education to Entertainment: A Morning of Learning, Listening and Laughter, sponsored by the Floral Park Lions Club in collaboration with District 20k2. Through the generosity of the Sewanhaka Central High School District and Floral Park Memorial High School principal Dr. Kathleen Sottile and staff, the school hosted the event for the second year.
Women’s positions and responsibilities are constantly changing and there is an ongoing necessity to provide women with a forum by which to address these and other demands. The symposium concentrated on many current issues in 16 diversified and enlightening workshops.
The day began with the entertaining and delightful talents of local novelist, keynote speaker and workshop presenter Saralee Rosenberg, “Women’s Intuition: Miracle or Myth.”
Senator Jack Martins welcomed the women attending the opening of the event and presented the Lions with a banner announcing the day.
Attendees at the symposium had the opportunity to connect with other women throughout the day and share their experiences. Many of those present expressed that they learned a great deal. The feedback was that their workshops were very informative and up-to-date, outstanding and meaningful. The presenters were highly knowledgeable, fabulous, engaging, and easy to understand.
In addition to the outstanding workshops, those in attendance were able to shop from the wide assortment of sixteen vendors who filled the gymnasium with their wares and information that included jewelry, craft products, clothing, and other services.

In addition, Elliot Krakauer from the Lions Long Island Eye Bank and Donna Rosenblum from Reason2Smile, a non-profit organization that educates people how they can help provide funding for education, food, clothing, and healthcare to orphans and at-risk children in developing countries were in attendance.
The Floral Park Lions received a number of inquiries from women who expressed an interest in becoming a member of the Lions Club.
The Floral Park Lions Club has been in existence since 1925 and has been a significant mainstay in Floral Park community; sponsoring and collaborating with many local educational, charitable, and service related endeavors.
