Landmark on Main Street concludes its 2013-14 Season Conversations From Main Street Series on Wednesday April 30, at 7:30 pm with a screening of Standardized followed by a discussion with experts.
Free admission to this and all conversations in the From Main Street series is made possible through a grant from the Angela & Scott Jaggar Foundation.
For decades, standardized testing has been a part of public education. Within the last 10 years, however, the testing has taken on a more important, and possibly more damaging, role, a spokeswoman said.
Test scores can mistakenly be viewed as effective assessments of student ability and teacher/school effectiveness, the spokeswoman said.
Standardized sheds light on the nature of these tests, the consequences of high-stakes testing, and the big money that’s involved.
Following the showing of Standardized, will be a panel discussion with Dr. Mark Naison, Badass Teachers Association and Professor, Fordham University; Jeanette Deutermann, Long Island Opt Out; and Dr. Joseph Rella, Superintendent of Comsewogue School District.
