Students at St. Dominic High School in Oyster Bay raised more than $3,300 during the week of April 7, also known as “LAX 4 LOVE.”
LAX 4 LOVE was started by the Defeo family three years ago when Amanda (class of 2013), Matthew, and John Defeo came up with this outstanding cause. LAX 4 LOVE is a non-profit organization ultimately designed for less fortunate athletes who cannot play the sports they love due to financial setbacks. Through LAX 4 LOVE, potential athletes will have access to the equipment needed in order to safely play the sports they love.
The equipment will be donated to Catholic Charities of Rockville Centre’s five teaching homes and their Siena Residence. The teaching homes are residential settings for emotionally challenged children and adolescents. Each of these five homes assists these young people with the skills necessary for successful living. The Siena Residence is home to 12 adults with chronic mental illness who work with counselors, assisting them in pursuing employment, job training, independent housing, medication management and socialization.
Junior lacrosse captain and co-founder Matthew Defeo said, “What a phenomenal event this has become. Thank you so much for helping make it so successful. Hopefully, we are making a difference for the children.”
