On Memorial Day weekend, the Roslyn Pines Pool Club on Pool Drive will open with revitalized recreational programs and membership structures for its neighbors and friends. Before the opening, there will be an open house on Sunday, May 4 from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m., with guests invited to visit the club and learn about the new activities and new approach.
In addition to the 80- by 40-foot heated main pool, a kiddie pool and tennis courts, members can expect babysitting, mahjong games and clinics, private parties, swim instruction by certified water-safety instructors, as well as tennis lessons, tennis leagues, pick-up basketball games, and arts and crafts for the kids.
“I am thrilled to help revitalize this beautiful facility,” said Ivy Santodonato, the club’s new director. “There will be so much for children and adults to do.”
She said that the club will be brought back to the way it was in the 1990s, with jammed-packed programs for everyone. Santodonato described the refreshed club as going to summer camp without having to go to camp.
“We want to make it just like a country club, but with a reasonably priced, family-oriented feel,” she said.
Formerly, the club was run by members of the community. Now, Aquatic Recreational Management, a large pool company working in and around Manhattan, has taken over maintaining the property and handling everything from lifeguard employment to membership plans.
Another big change is at the concession stand. This year, Wings Plus (on Haven Avenue in Port Washington) will be offering up chicken tenders, sandwiches, wraps, salads, ice cream and more. In fact, Wings Plus will cater parties as well as cook and pack up dinners to go.
Different membership options apply for family, couples, singles, or daily walk-in guests. Seasonal memberships range from $850 for a senior citizen to $1,900 for a family of four. Details are at go.roslynpinespool.com.
Santodonato stresses that the newly revitalized club promises to be very serious about customer service.
“If there’s a heat wave, for example, and some children want to stay later, I will personally be there to keep the pool open,” she said. “It’s been a long winter and, after all, this is their club.”
