Web users have been advised by the U.S. Department of Homeland security to avoid using Internet Explorer after a major security issue was discovered on Saturday.
And there doesn’t appear to be an immediate fix for the bug in sight.
“We are currently unaware of a practical solution to this problem,” the department said in a statement Monday.
The bug, which utilizes a corrupt Adobe Flash file, allows hackers to bypass security and infect websites. Users could then be infected unknowingly when visiting a compromised website.
If users must use Internet Explorer, it is suggested that Adobe Flash is turned off to keep the bug from being able to function.
The bug reportedly affects Internet Explorer versions 6 through 11.
