Early one Saturday morning in April, the Manhasset Crew athletes aided the Town of North Hempstead in the clean-up of winter debris scattered along our shorelines at Bar Beach. As this winter was particularly long and harsh, the debris pile-up was unusually formidable. But the Crew team was up to the task and dutifully removed bags and bags of trash from our beautiful harbor.
This clean-up tradition began last year, in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, when so much debris washed ashore that the Town of North Hempstead asked for the team’s assistance in their efforts to clean up. According to Suzanne Mills, President of Friends of Manhasset Crew, “The Manhasset crew team is very happy to continue this tradition. Our athletes are environmentally conscious and strongly support keeping our shorelines sustainable and healthy.”
Head Crew Coach Hugo Guardado-Henriquez added, “I am proud to see our kids working together with the town to keep our shorelines clean. By pooling our strengths and talents, and sharing the work and responsibilities, we are creating a better tomorrow.”-FOMC
