Register For Spring Skating Lessons

Town of Oyster Bay residents are invited to “Learn to Skate” this spring by registering for skating lessons at the Town of Oyster Bay’s Ice Skating Center, at 1001 Stewart Ave. in Bethpage, according to Oyster Bay Town Councilman Anthony D. Macagnone.

“Skating lessons for people of all ages take place at our rink throughout the year,” Macagnone said.

Registration for Series 5 (May 3 through June 26) began on April 19. Those interested can register at the rink, online (www.TheRinx.com) or by phone (516) 797-4126.

“Learn to Skate” offers group skating lessons to beginners through advanced levels of figure skating and hockey.  Skaters are grouped based on age and skill, ranging from pre-school and basic skills through advanced levels. The program is seven weeks in length (although there will be no classes on Memorial Day, Monday, May 26) and all classes are 30 minutes in length. For residents, the fee is $135 for the session. For non-residents the fee is $175. The “Learn to Skate” schedule is: Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 4 to 6 p.m., Tuesdays and Thursdays 10 a.m. to noon, Saturdays from 10:50 to 11:50 a.m. and Sundays from 12:15 to 12:45 p.m.

Registration costs include admission into the session for which you are registered on the day of the lesson, membership in the United States Figure Skating (USFS) Basic Skills Program, USFS record book for NEW members, and stickers and USFS Badges upon mastering of each level. There will also be an evaluation on week seven with a recommendation for next series. There will be no refunds or makeups and skate rental is not included in price. Helmets, gloves or mittens and warm layers are recommended for all skaters.

“The Rinx Skating School staff is assembled of experienced and qualified professionals, governed by US Figure Skating, USA Hockey and Professional Skaters Association. Their philosophy is simple; teach the fundamentals of ice skating with a major emphasis on fun,” Macagnone said. “We are proud to offer quality programs that are great for every skater, whether you are young or young at heart you are sure to have fun learning to skate.”
