A European Bistro At The Inn

Brasserie translates to “brewery” in the English language, but the English term is more commonly use for a fairly upscale high end bistro. These meanings come together inside the Inn at New Hyde Park, at a restaurant known as Brasserie 214. Serving a wide selection of European cuisine, this bistro also boasts one of the widest selections of beer lists on Long Island.

“Brasserie 214 came about in 2007, after extensive renovations to the Inn’s event facility,” said Restaurant General Manager Chris Anthony. “We feature many selections from Europe, including menu items from France, Northern Italy, Belgium, Germany, and Scandinavia.”

Brunch, lunch and dinner items include European style oven-baked pancakes, Old Amsterdam paninis and the Bavarian Alps sandwich, which features grilled bratwurst smothered in onions, Swiss cheese and honey mustard.

Dinnertime features prix fixe (fixed price) menus with lobster and mussels night on Wednesday, steak night on Thursday and seafood fest on Friday. Sundays are an All Day Oktoberfest from 11 a.m. to closing time with a wide variety of Bavarian specialties on the menu.

“Sunday is a big day for us and we have a lot of German fare including bratwurst, weisswurst, sauerbraten and all types of schnitzels,” said Anthony.

The beer selection at Brasserie 214 is extensive to say the least, with the full spectrum of craft beers on tap. There are Belgian beers, Italian beers, German beers and small batch beers like Sam Adams Indiana Pale Ale. All of these are served at the restaurant’s modified oval bar, which is still in its original state since the Inn first opened in 1938.

Brasserie 214 is more than just high quality cuisine and imported ale choices. The bistro also features live music acts every Friday and Saturday night with local bands playing an assortment of contemporary, rock and dance music. The music usually begins at 9 p.m. and lasts until the early morning hours.

All special events including anniversaries, birthday galas, Bar and Bat Mitzvahs and private parties are welcome.

Anthony took the position of general manager this past February, after transferring over from Runyon’s Seafood Restaurant in Seaford. He is a veteran in the restaurant business, with over 34 years under his belt.

“I want our customers to enjoy authentic dishes with modern gourmet twists,” said Anthony. “I want them to have a dining experience to remember.”
