More than $2,000 was raised for cancer research as 16 teams competed in the Hoops for H.O.P.E. (Helping Other People Every Day) basketball tournament at Massapequa High School.
The event was coordinated through the collaborative efforts of The Chief’s Challenge Club whose mission is to spread Random Acts of Kindness to others and The C.A.R.E. Club, which spreads knowledge and awareness about cancer to students and the community. All proceeds went to the Jake Brice Memorial Fund and to Brain Cancer Research in memory of Jake Brice, a member of the class of 2014 who succumbed to the disease this past August.
Special thanks go to girls varsity basketball coach Shari Roessler for helping the clubs organize the event, local businesses that donated gift cards for the raffle baskets and YES Community Counseling Center for making all of the raffle baskets.
Club Advisors Eileen Lind, Joanne Waters and Trish McCarthy called the event a great success and hope to continue the tournament in the future.
