Rude Awakening

One Westbury man got a startling visit from a Nissan Altima at around 9:45 a.m. Thursday, May 8.

The female driver of a Nissan Altima was driving down Jericho Turnpikes and went to switch lanes, when she clipped the right back of a accident cropBMW and skidded into a house, located at 596 Carle Road. The Altima narrowly missed a tree and light pole, and went airborne, flying through a wooden fence and into the bottom of the brick house.

Both drivers suffered only minor injuries and were transported to a local hospital. Only one man lives in the home and he was not injured. However building inspector Bill Mello said that the structure of the house had shifted because of the impact.

The home is located on the corner of Carle Road and Jericho Turnpike. Mario, a neighbor who lives across the street, said that the area is notoriously bad.

“People speed through here all the time. It’s very dangerous, they run all the lights, they go too fast,” he said.

The speed limit on Jericho Turnpike is 50 mph.DSCN2747
