Each year students in the local area compete in a contest sponsored by New York State Senator Kemp Hannon entitled, “There Ought To Be A law.” Students in the sixth grade work with their social studies teachers to brainstorm issues that could be resolved by creating laws. The entries are submitted and winners of the contest are honored in the spring.
This year Erin Maguire, a sixth grader at ITMMS, has been named a finalist in the competition. Maguire will be honored at Levittown Hall on May 22, when he will be presented with a citation from the office of state Sen. Kemp Hannon. At the end of the ceremony, the Grand Prize Winner will be announced.
