Hip-hop artist and producer Ian Bavitz, better known to fans as Aesop Rock, was born in Syosset Hospital on Jericho Turnpike in 1977. Bavitz found success in the late ’90s after he independently released the albums Music for Earth Worms and Appleseed.
In 2001, Bavitz had a self-described “nervous breakdown” and later documented his struggles in the song “1 of 4 (Thank You),” which begins with the lyrics: “My name is Ian Mathias Bavitz, I was born in 1-9-7-6, at Syosset hospital, located in Long Island, NY.”
