Garden City Man Convicted of Murdering His Mother

A Garden City man was convicted Thursday of killing his 88-year-old mother to cover up the fact that he was stealing money from her three years ago.

A Nassau County jury found James Olsen guilty of second-degree murder following five hours of deliberations.

Authorities had said that the 59-year-old man, who was unemployed at the time, strangled his mother with an article of clothing in April 2011.

Garden City village police officers later found him suffering from self-inflicted slash wounds to his wrists inside their College Place home.

He faces up to 25 years in prison when he is sentenced June 27 by Judge Angelo Delligatti.
