The 2014 Oyster Bay High School Lady Baymen varsity softball team was crowned Class B Nassau County Champions last week when they defeated Carle Place High School in the finals at Mitchel Park in Uniondale. The Lady Baymen swept the best of three series with 2-0 and 11-9 victories. The week before in the Class B semi-finals, the Lady Baymen swept East Rockaway High School by scores of 6-0 and 13-1 to advance to the county finals. Next up for the county champs is the Long Island Championship game on June 5 at Mitchel Park in Uniondale and hopefully another Fire Department escort back into town.
During regular season play this year the Lady Baymen were placed in conference 2 and played a very competitive schedule against the top 11 teams in Class A, which earned them the number one seed in the Class B playoff format. Currently, the Lady Baymen own a 10-12 record, as they await the Suffolk County champion for the Long Island Championship game. The Lady Baymen will graduate three seniors and co-captains this year and they are Olivia Agostinello who will be attending Temple University, Caroline Kelly who will be attending Elon University, and Jacqueline Romeo who will be attending Oswego University in the fall.
The remainder of the roster for the Lady Baymen include juniors: Madison Albert, Michelle Morris, Kelly McKeon, and Brittany Wilson; sophomores: Dana Galgano, Alicia Romeo, Samantha Romeo, and Danielle Sugar; Freshmen: Emily Moore, Alexandra Gagliardi, Sarah Collette, and Kaela Kilfoil.
Congratulations is also in order for this team earning “The NYSPHSAA Scholar Athlete Team Award” for an overall average of 95.261. This team of student athletes has learned many valuable life lessons both in the classroom and on the fields of play as they have accepted all challenges placed before them and have found both individual and team success.
