I See A Canvas Moon Rising
Our Times Coffeehouse is pleased to welcome Canvas Moon Band, three versatile acoustic musicians who will perform on Friday evening, June 20. The concert begins at 8 p.m. in the coffeehouse, located at 38 Old Country Road in Garden City. The Canvas Moon Band plays both original and traditional pieces in a special blend of acoustic music with creative arrangements and an original style. The trio is made up of Mark Wahl (guitar, ukulele, vocals), JoAnne Sherwood (guitar, clarinet, and vocals), and Denise Knight (flute, keyboard, vocals). Although a new group, the musicians all bring years of musical experiences together. Before the band formed, Wahl wrote and performed his own songs as a solo act. His profession is a luthier, and both he and Sherwood play guitars crafted by Wahl. Sherwood, who is a band director, had her passion for the guitar reignited when she met her two counterparts a few years ago and began playing with them at the Newman Center in Oswego. Knight brings her gift of melodic flute and solid keyboard playing to round out the group. The suggested donations are $15 adults; children under 12, $6. Very young children are free. Tickets are on sale at the door; sorry, no pre-sales are available. Doors open at 7:15 p.m. For directions and more information, please visit www.ourtimescoffeehouse.org or call 516-741-7304. The Our Times Coffeehouse is located at 38 Old Country Rd. in Garden City. It is staffed entirely with volunteers, has been presenting live music for 24 years. OTC is dedicated to supporting affordable folk music on Long Island, and over the years has hosted hundreds of outstanding performers in a warm, intimate setting.
