When you start thumbing through the latest issue of Garden City Life, you may notice that there are a number of music-related items having to do with Garden City students coming up through the school system. And while it’s the time of year where academic honors are starting to become announced, these creative achievements are no less impressive. From our cover story having to do with Aiden McGovern, (who just may be the heir apparent to John Tesh), to the continued influence of retired Garden City Band Director Peter Stanganelli on students under his tutelage readying for an upcoming recital, the village is alive with the sound of music. And don’t forget the 8th-Grade Band and Late Night Jazz Ensemble, which traveled to the Music in the Parks Competition held at Pennsylvania’s Dorney Park, where these ensembles wound up capturing high honors for the fourth consecutive year thanks to the hard work of teachers Martha Boonshaft and Jennifer Iovino. These are the sweet sounds of success that the Garden City Public School system continues to cultivate year after year.
