The North Shore Kayak Club will hold its annual kayaking clinic, targeted to novice recreational kayakers, and those interested in learning more about the sport, on Tuesday, June 17. It will begin promptly at 7 p.m., at the Town Dock in Port Washington at the bottom of the ramp, to the left of the fishing pier when facing the water.
Among the items to be covered are: the different types of basic equipment, including kayak and paddle options; the proper way to enter and exit a kayak; basic paddling strokes; and, necessary safety gear and precautions. This will be a demonstration and lecture, so it is not necessary to bring any equipment. There is no charge for this event.
Instruction, given on land and in water, will be provided by North Shore Kayak Club officer, Seth Ehrlich. Ehrlich stated that one of the Club’s goals is to get more people out on the water, experiencing the ever-growing sport of recreational kayaking.
The North Shore Kayak Club, now in its eighth year, is a not-for-profit organization of local, recreational kayaking enthusiasts. The Club runs kayaking trips on most weekends from May through November. Its members are dedicated to enjoying our beautiful, local waterways, as well as the camaraderie of paddling together as a group.
It also participates in a number of community events each year. For further information, please contact Alan Bergman at 917-400-7041 or Jim Roman at 917-626-4808.
