Recently there have been many tragic situations — unexplainable actions by desperate, stressed, mentally ill and suicidal people.
We, as a nation, seem to forget the millions of poor, needy and ill citizens. We pass by homeless veterans, many of us without a thought of helping them. We see runaway teenagers and we ignore them. Our leaders, so self righteous in their speeches about the American people, then with their next vote, remove millions from SNAP benefits.
Representatives deny FEMA assistance to a state hit by a devastating storm, but request the same assistance from FEMA when their state is hit with a raging flood that ravages the land.
House members shut down the government and then request help for needy programs, which they have gutted and will cut further when the budget is passed.
Elected Federal representatives praise our military for their service and then forget them when they return to civilian life.
I have lost count of the shootings since the Sandy Hook tragedy. It seems every week, or almost every day, there are reports of mass killings of innocent people. What has congress done to protect us from these senseless killings?
Is it any wonder, that people living on the edge of insanity, losing their grip on reality, act in the way we have witnessed the last few years?
