Not only did Friends Academy sophomore Devika Kedia of Muttontown win the Silver Medal at this year’s Long Island Math Fair, she was able to do it with a project that is very close to her heart.
Competing against hundreds of Long Island high school students, Kedia chose to connect her passion for golf with mathematics in her project. “I researched the math behind a golf shot,” explained Kedia. “I proved that each different golf club corresponds to its own distance due to varying shaft lengths and loft angles, which explains why golfers have to carry so many different clubs.”
