The annual 5th Battalion Parade and Drill took place at Sea Cliff’s Harry Tappen Beach on Saturday, June 21, a beautiful, sunny day; ideal beach weather, though likely a bit hot for the men practicing their drills for their fire departments. The 5th Battalion consists of 11 volunteer fire departments, including Sea Cliff, Oyster Bay, Oyster Bay Atlantic Steamer, Glen Cove, Bayville, East Norwich, Locust Valley, Syosset, Roslyn Highlands, Glenwood and Roslyn Rescue, all of whom took part in the old-fashioned drill. The Bayville team took second place in the three man ladder event, while Sea Cliff took third, both coming behind first place winners Roslyn Bear Cats.
Oyster Bay took first in the individual ladder event while Glen Cove took third. In the running hose event, Sea Cliff took first place, Oyster Bay took second and East Norwich took third.
