Three Syosset High School students qualified through regional and state fairs for the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF), placing in their respective categories during the competition in Los Angeles from May 10-16.
Ritayan Chakraborty took home fourth place and $500 for his work in cellular and molecular biology. Abrar Nadroo received a third-place award and $1,000 for his research in biochemistry. Justin Lafazan won second place and $1,500, along with the honor of having an asteroid named after him for his economics research conducted in the behavioral and social sciences category.
The Intel ISEF is the largest international pre-college science competition, with more than 1,700 high school students from more than 70 countries, regions and territories. The competition enables students to showcase their independent research while competing for more than $5 million in prizes. — Syosset Schools
