Summer Concert: Manhattan Jazz
Garden City’s Department of Recreation and Parks is happy to announce the schedule of its concert series “Summer Music on the Village Green.” The concert series will be held at the gazebo on the corner of Stewart and Hilton Avenues. Concerts are held on Thursdays beginning at 7:15 p.m. Concerts are held rain or shine. In the event of less than perfect weather, the concert will be held at the Cultural and Performing Arts Center in St. Paul’s Cluett Hall, 295 Stewart Ave.

YAK & Snack Book Discussions
Come to the library from 2-3 p.m. to discuss Jen Calonita’s Sleepaway Girls. When the exceptionally people-pleasing Sam spends a summer as a counselor-in-training, she learns how to say no, how to stand up for herself, and what it feels like to have a crush on a great guy. Registration is underway online on Eventkeeper for the Yak & Snack on July 19 as well as for the Yak& Snack to be held on Thursday, July 31 at 7 p.m. when John Green’s The Fault in Our Stars will be discussed. Pick up copies of these books at the YA desk. Refreshments will be served at both programs.

Marvelous Movie Matinee
A screening of the 2003 heist film The Italian Job starring Mark Wahlberg and Edward Norton will be held from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. at the Garden City Public Library. The event will be held in Meeting Room B. Funding is provided by the Friends of the Garden City Public Library. The library is located at 60 7th St. For more information, please call 516-742-8405.
Rockets
Join Science Teacher Chris Buchman at a workshop to learn to make model rockets on Monday July 21 from 7-8:30 p.m.. After the rockets are made, you will go outside on the library’s property to launch the rockets. The challenge will be to find your rocket after it is launched. Crafts With Shirley Ruby
Come to the library on for Crafts with Shirley Ruby. Crazy Hair Mirror will be held at 1 p.m. for children entering grades k-2 in fall 2014 and Artsy Chalkboard will be held at 2:30 p.m. for children entering grades 3-5 in fall 2014. Registration begins Tuesday, July 15 at 9:30 a.m. on Eventkeeper (www.gardencitypl.org). Each child participating in the program will need his or her own library card to register for the program. You must do a separate registration for each child you wish to attend the program. Please arrive promptly. If you are late, your spot may be given to someone on the waitlist. Make A Porthole Aquarium With Samantha Raiten
Join the library for Make a Porthole Aquarium with Samantha Raiten. This fun craft program is for children ages 2 ½-5 (not entering kindergarten in fall 2014) and an adult caregiver. Art teacher Karen Morea will return to the library this summer on from 7-8 p.m. to host a craft workshop. Teens will create a fun and interesting space style design for a “Galaxy” tote bag.
