Cops: Hempstead Man Killed Teen with Machete

A 45-year-old Hempstead man is facing a murder charge after he allegedly killed a teenager Friday with a machete, Nassau County police said.

David Sadler was charged with second-degree murder and will be arraigned Saturday at First District Court in Hempstead.

The victim has been identified as 17-year-old Terrance Grier of Hempstead.

Police said Sadler and Grier became involved in a verbal altercation outside 79 Albermale Avenue—which is near Sadler’s residence—around 5:25 p.m. That’s when, according to police, Sadler allegedly stuck Grier in the neck with a machete. He fled the scene, police said, but was located a short time later by Hempstead police on Henry Street and placed under arrest.

A Nassau County police ambulance transported Grier to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 6:08 p.m., police said.

Police did not say what prompted the altercation.
