Summer Concert: Six Gun

Garden City’s Department of Recreation and Parks is happy to announce the schedule of its concert series “Summer Music on the Village Green.” The concert series will be held at the gazebo on the corner of Stewart and Hilton Avenues. Concerts are held on Thursdays beginning at 7:15 p.m. Concerts are held rain or shine. In the event of less than perfect weather, the concert will be held at the Cultural and Performing Arts Center in St. Paul’s Cluett Hall, 295 Stewart Ave.

Fivestone Returns To Friday Night Promenade

Enjoy hospitality Garden City style every week this summer as the village’s “Friday Night Promenade” initiative continues on Seventh Street Friday, July 25. Festivities kick off at 6 p.m. Seventh Street will be closed to all vehicular traffic and parking beginning at 5:45 p.m. This week, musical entertainment will once again be provided by the band Fivestone, performing hit songs from the 60s, 70s and 80s. They’ll be plenty of activities for the kids too, including free balloon art and face painting care of balloon twister John Reid and his team. Tables and chairs will be set up in the street for additional seating and outdoor dining and dinner specials will be offered at local eateries along Seventh Street. The promenade runs every Friday night through September so mark your calendars.

Marvelous Movie Matinee

A screening of the 1999 caper film Entrapment starring Sean Connery and Catherine Zeta-Jones will be held from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. at the Garden City Public Library. The event will be held in Meeting Room B. Funding is provided by the Friends of the Garden City Public Library. The library is located at 60 7th St. For more information, please call 516-742-8405.

Spark A Reaction

Mentalist Amore brings you the science of the mind in the program Spark A Reaction from 7 to 8 p.m. He will interact throughout this exciting program giving an amazing demonstration of sensation, perception, states of consciousness, memory, personality, intelligence emotion, lie detection, intuition, the power of suggestion and parapsychology. Build It With The Long Island Children’s Museum

Visit the library for Build It with the Long Island Children’s Museum. This exciting science program will be held at 11 a.m. for children ages 2 ½-5 (not entering kindergarten in fall 2014) and an adult caregiver, 1 p.m. for children entering grades k-2 in fall 2014, and 2:15 p.m. for children entering grades 3-5 in fall 2014. Registration begins Tuesday, July 22 at 9:30 a.m. on Eventkeeper (www.gardencitypl.org). Each child participating in the program will need his or her own Library card to register for the program. You must do a separate registration for each child you wish to attend the program. Please arrive promptly. If you are late, your spot may be given to someone on the wait list. Mason Jar Sippers Workshop

Come and decorate mason jars at the Mason Jar Sippers Workshop from 7-8 p.m. Jars will be equipped with a straw—great for sipping lemonade on a lazy, hazy day of summer. Free Breast Cancer Support Groups

The Adelphi NY Statewide Breast Cancer program is offering new support groups. There is no cost for any group; however pre-registration is required. Additional groups are formed upon request, including groups for men with breast cancer and family members. All groups meet at Adelphi University School of Social Work in Garden City. • Support group for women newly diagnosed with breast cancer will meet weekly for eight weeks from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

• Support group for women post treatment will meet weekly for eight weeks from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

• Support group for young women with breast cancer will meet weekly for eight weeks from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

• Support group for women with metastatic breast cancer will meet weekly for eight weeks from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Furniture Needed

The A.T.Stewart Exchange Consignment Shop at 109 Eleventh St. in Garden City is looking for furniture to add to its inventory. The shop can use cocktail tables, end tables, consoles, chairs of all types, dressers, dining room tables, breakfronts, servers, secretaries, mirrors, etc….it’s all in demand. If you have a particularly large piece, take a picture and show it to Maryann Caterino at the shop (516-746-8900). Consignees are paid 50 percent of the selling price. The shop is conveniently located on the lower level of The Garden City Historical Society Museum. All proceeds from the A.T.Stewart Consignment Shop go towards the maintenance and upkeep of the Garden City Historical Society Museum.
