I am so very proud of our parks system and all we have to offer in our great county. This summer, we have an action-packed line-up. With a combination of quality entertainment and fun activities for the whole family, we look forward to seeing you out and about.
Alongside my continued dedication to creating tourism, the incredible support we have received from local business sponsors has made bringing top-notch events to our residents at no additional cost, a great reality.
This week, I would like to alert you to upcoming happenings. Pack up your lawn chair and mark your calendar, because we have some good old-fashioned entertainment in store.
To round out the last few days of July, we have planned a number of great activities and performances to enjoy, beginning with a free showcase at Eisenhower Park’s Lakeside Theatre by the American Ballet on Tuesday, July 29, at 7 p.m. Next, head over to Parking Field 6A at Eisenhower Park on Wednesday, for what is sure to be an incredible concert by Barbara Harris & the Toys.
On Thursday, Fresh 102.7 sponsors a showing of Despicable Me 2 at Lakeside Theatre, starting at dusk, while the Long Beach Film Festival Drive-In at Nickerson Beach begins at 5 p.m.
The start of August is just as jam-packed with celebration. On Friday, Aug. 1, stop down to Lakeside Theatre for Creole Family Night. The festivities are set to run from 5-9:30 p.m. Did you know
Saturday, Aug. 2, is Garvies Point Day? Visit the museum at 10 a.m. before spending the evening at Lakeside Theatre for Tony Orlando’s Salute to Veterans Concert. The performance kicks off at 6:45 p.m.
Also, don’t forget that the first weekend of August means Olde Time Baseball. Come down to Old Bethpage Village Restoration at 10 a.m. on either Saturday or Sunday (or both) to enjoy.
The International Music Nights Concert Series is a great Nassau County tradition, with nearly two-dozen nights dedicated to music and culture that honor a range of ethnic groups. Be sure to stop by and enjoy the park, music and culture all summer long. American Night on Monday, Aug.4 and Pacoli Night on Sunday, Aug. 10, all beginning at 7 p.m. at Lakeside.
We have a ton of fun movie nights in store as we move into the month. On Tuesday, Aug. 5, Cedar Creek Park in Seaford will show Diary of a Wimpy Kid, on Thursday, Aug. 7, Fresh 102.7 sponsors a viewing of the film Epic at Lakeside Theatre, and finally on Tuesday, Aug. 12, Cedar Creek Park plays Sandlot. All movies begin at dusk.
As always, we cherish every opportunity to bring musical entertainment to county residents. Coming up, we look forward to spending an afternoon with the New Vintage Big Band on Wednesday, Aug. 6 at Parking Field 6A of Eisenhower Park.
The fun starts at noon. Next, the Long Island Philharmonic performs at Lakeside Theatre on Friday, Aug. 8, followed by a Saturday tribute to Neil Diamond by Super Diamond. Both Friday and Saturday’s free performances begin at 7 p.m.
