Students at A.P. Willits Elementary School in the Syosset Central School District had the opportunity to experience what it was like to attend college for one morning during the school’s second annual University Day on June 17. University Day features a variety of hands-on workshops that allow students to explore new areas of study and interest. Parents, faculty and community members taught courses in an area that they have prior expertise, bringing a unique perspective to the students.
Students selected different workshops based on interests, including music technology, hockey, writing, gardening, fitness and crafts, among many others. They were able to participate in two separate sessions – expanding their knowledge and interest in a variety of subject areas. The event allows students to enhance their regular academic curriculum with stimulating and engaging workshops.
