This month, the Professional Golfers Association of America [PGA] hosted the Barclays Tournament—part of the first round of PGA’s FedEx Tournament with a $1 million prize—at the Bethpage Black Golf Course. From the event, the PGA released $50,000 to the Village of Farmingdale.
“It was great working with the Farmingdale community, one of the best host communities in the country”, said Peter Mele, PGA Tour Director.
After careful review, village officials announced that they have allocated the money to select funds, which will go to support the families and children in need within the community. The funds will be distributed to six local charities, including: the Society of St. Vincent’s de Paul, the Farmingdale United Methodist Church for their soup kitchen, St. Kilian Parish Outreach, the American Legion “Angel
Bicycles Program” for wounded veterans, the Farmingdale School District’s “Children in Need” fund and the Farmingdale Community Summit’s “Families in Need” fund.
“Farmingdale Village is happy to announce that funds from the Barclays PGA Tour will help those in need in our local community,” said Mayor Ralph Ekstrand. “It’s great news for the Village, and the Barclays PGA Tour will be back in 2016.”
