Children’s Story Times at the Oyster Bay-East Norwich Library, through Aug. 13. 10:15 a.m.: Mother Goose Time (9-23 months); 10:40 a.m.: Toddler Time (24-35 months); 11:15 a.m.: Book/Game Buddies (3-6 years).

July Band Concerts

The Oyster Bay Community Band performs a free concert on the lawn of Christ Church on July 30, at 8 p.m. under the direction of Stephen Walker. For information email ob.band@yahoo.com. Bring your own chair or blanket. The rain date is Thursday.

At the Bayville Free Library, 2 to 4 p.m. Learn babysitting techniques, first aid basics, and how to obtain the right babysitting job. For students entering sixth grade.

Bayville Car Show

Summer Nights Dream Cruise, benefiting Flags for Classrooms, Pets for Vets, and more, takes place from 5:30 to 9 p.m., Fridays through Oct. 31 at Ransom Beach, 10 Bayville Ave. Show vehicles fee, $5; spectators are free. Call 516-882-5022 for information.

Music Under The Stars

The Incorporated Village of Bayville Presents: Music Under the Stars, an annual free summer concert series at West Harbor Memorial Park in Bayville.  This week’s band will be Lost Time (hits from the ‘60s, ‘70s, and now). The concerts are Friday evenings from 8 to 10 p.m. (weather permitting) and are free to the general public. In case of inclement weather, cancellations will be posted on the village’s website, www.bayvilleny.gov.

Opera Night   

You are invited attend the Opera Night concert at Christ Church at 8 p.m. for Arias, Art Songs and music from some of the most beloved operas: La Boheme, Madame Butterfly, Turandot, Tosca. The suggested donation is $15. For information call the parish office at 516-922-6377.


Sunday, Aug. 3

Belle Voci

Christ Church presents a concert on Aug. 3 by Belle Voci at 4 p.m. Founded and directed by Jennifer Scott Miceli Ph.D., Belle Voci is an intergenerational Women’s Choir that performs annually to raise funds for cancer prevention and cure. Proceeds from the concert ticket sales are donated to The American Cancer Society.  For tickets and information call the parish office 922-6377.


Monday, Aug. 4

Movie at the Library

The Bayville Library is showing the film, Nebraska, at 2 p.m. The library is located at 34 School St. in Bayville.  There is no charge, and refreshments are served. Donations are accepted.

Lego Club

Tables will be set up in the Green Room where children can build whatever their imaginations can come up with. All Lego creations will remain in the library. Children under 9 must be accompanied by an adult. 10 a.m. to noon, Oyster Bay-East Norwich Library.

“Scratch Surprise” Mug

For grades 5-12 as of Sept. 2014. The Madd Potter will be at the Oyster Bay-East Norwich Library to help you paint a “Scratch Surprise” mug. You will apply layers of Neon paint under a black glaze. Using a toothpick, students will then “scratch away” the glaze to reveal the beautiful bright colors underneath. Create exciting patterns, lines, shapes and symbols—limited only to your imagination! Mugs will be fired in a pottery kiln so they are food and dishwasher safe. Mugs will be available for pick-up at the library on Aug. 15. Register at the Reference Desk or call the library at 922-1212. 2 to 3:30 p.m.

Cruise Night

Cruise Night is held weekly on Audrey Avenue now through Sept. 30. The fee is $5 per vehicle and visitors are free. Live music is performed by celebrity musicians with auctions and raffles to benefit project of the Historic OB-EN Chamber of Commerce. Call 922-6464. Cruise Nights is a weather dependent event.

Songs Of The West

The Town of Oyster Bay presents Ernie Sites in The Singing Cowboy Sings Songs of the West on Aug. 3 at 10:30 a.m. at the Theodore Roosevelt Memorial Park. Free performance for children of all ages.

Sail For Deafness

The annual Sail the Sound for Deafness event takes place on Aug. 7 and includes a Regatta and a Cocktail Party, in a partnership between the Mill Neck Manor, Oakcliff Sailing Center, the WaterFront Center and the Oyster Bay Marine Center. For information and fees call 628-4243.

Movie: Heaven is for Real

The true story of a small-town father who must find the courage and conviction to share his son’s extraordinary, life-changing experience with the world. Colton claims to have visited Heaven during a near death experience. He recounts the details of his amazing journey with childlike innocence and speaks matter-of-factly about things that happened before his birth. Starring: Thomas Haden Church, Kelly Reilly & Greg Kinnear. (Rated PG for thematic material including some medical situations, 99 min.) The Panama Canal

The Oyster Bay Historical Society, 20 Summit Street presents a special event on Aug. 8, on the Panama Canal: The Big Ditch Turns 100. History Walk

Join Oyster Bay Historical Society Director Phil Blocklyn on a foot tour of Oyster Bay, featuring the historical sites along East and West Main Street, Audrey Avenue, and South Street in the heart of the hamlet at 2 p.m. on August 9, fee $25. Gregory Reid Exhibit

The Oyster Bay Historical Society, 20 Summit Street presents a retrospective exhibit by Gregory Reid at the Koenig Center now through Sept. 5. The original works are for sale with a portion benefiting the OBHS. For more information and hours call 922-5032.
