Runners and walkers from Manhasset and all over Long Island and beyond are invited to join in the fun on one of the most unusual 5 Kilometer courses on Long Island at the Saturday, August 9 Sands Point Sprint at the Sands Point Preserve.
The August 2013 edition of the Sands Point Sprint attracted 313 finishers, including top Manhasset finishers John Loscalzo, who finished in 22 minutes, 34 seconds, and Harlan Nebenhaus, who crossed the finish line in 27 minutes, 18 seconds. Race organizers are looking for Loscalzo and Nebenhaus, and a host of other Manhasset runners, to be back on August 9.
Race management chores will be handled by the Greater Long Island Running Club. Computerized timing and scoring will be handled by Nikita Dorcinvil of justfinish.net.
Awards will be presented in age groups running from 10 and under through 85 plus, as well as Clydesdale/Athenas.
Look for all the usual GLIRC amenities – a great post-race repast featuring the almost sinful cupcakes and other glorious baked goods that are generously donated by All Round Foods, top quality commemorative T-shirts to all entrants, and a nice variety of post-race door prizes.
Lynn, Gartner, Dunne & Covello, a Mineola law firm, has signed on to be the new lead sponsor of the event, with partner John Dunne and his wife planning on running the 5K distance. The Lynbrook Runner’s Stop will be back as the presenting sponsor.
