Health Fitness & Sports Expo

Dwight “Doc” Gooden, will speak about his longtime, and often public, struggles with drug addiction at Nassau County’s Annual Health, Fitness & Sports Expo on Saturday, Aug. 9.  The family-friendly Expo, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Mitchel Athletic Complex, is free and designed to introduce an array of healthy lifestyle alternatives to replace fast food and chronic video game playing.  The Mitchel Field Athletic Complex is located at 1 Charles Lindbergh Boulevard in Uniondale.

Free Glucose and Cholesterol levels and blood pressure tests will be provided to attendees, along with the ability to watch sports and fitness demonstrations performed by local organizations.  Attendees can also enjoy free school supplies; free samples of healthy foods cooked on site; and free access to insurance information.

The Expo also features sports and fitness activities, including: a PGA golf clinic, a New York Cosmos soccer clinic for children ages 4-12, yoga class and Zumbathon.  Participation in these events earns a free raffle ticket for the chance to win signed sports memorabilia from the New York Knicks and New York Islanders, four New York Mets game tickets, and a 50 inch flat screen television.

“The Health, Fitness and Sports Expo is the perfect, healthy alternative to video games, and a way to get outside to become active and learn how to lead a healthy lifestyle,” said County Executive Mangano. “I urge residents to attend the Health Expo and spread the word of wellness – mental, physical and emotional wellness through sports, exercise, good nutrition and regular medical screenings. ”

The Expo is co-sponsored by Winthrop University Hospital, K98.3, the PGA TOUR Superstore, Health Plus, Bethpage Federal Credit Union, NuHealth, Medytox, St. Joseph’s Hospital, Blu Chip Marketing, Hofstra University, the NY Cosmos, St. Francis Hospital and PinkTie.org.
