Water Main Break

DSCN2396Early on Friday morning at about 6:15 a.m., August 8, Manhasset resident, Ed Wachowicz, noticed some water in the street on Park Avenue in front of his home.  “I usually go to swim early in the morning and I saw some water on the road.”

When he returned to the area later on, the road was flooded. He contacted Manhasset-Lakeville Water Department to report the situation.

The Water District was aware of the problem but could not get work crews there until 3 p.m. because of another water main break earlier that they were working on in Great Neck.

The water main that burst on Park Avenue and Munsey Place impacted the residents north of Park Avenue.  The affected area  had no water service to their homes.

By 8:30 p.m.,  construction crews had completed repairs and were cleaning up the debris from excavating the main.

According to Wachowicz, the hole that was unearthed was extremely deep and the roadway removed to get to the broken the main significant.

A few years earlier, the water main broke on the sloped roadway of Park Avenue  entering Munsey Park causing the road to be closed for several days while repairs were accomplished.
