Kids Make Memories At Boys & Girls Club

Summer camp is well under way, fun is being had, and memories being made at the Boys & Girls Club of Oyster Bay-East Norwich.

The kindergarten through third-grade group has had a variety of exciting activities to do during their days spent on-site at the clubhouse. So far campers have participated in “Talent Show Day,” where they all jumped at the chance to show off their special skills to fellow campers. Whether it was a comedy routine, a dance performance, or someone singing their very own song, campers and staff alike were extremely entertained.

“Color War Day” was also fun as campers were able to participate in a friendly competition against each other’s groups to earn points for their teams. Activities included relay races, tug-of-war, and trivia questions. Other on-site events included “Mismatch Day” and a “Luau Day” where campers got to experience a Hawaiian themed barbecue on the playground complete with grass skirts, handmade leis, tiki decorations, and a hula hoop competition. While off-site, the campers traveled to Tobay Beach where campers stayed cool on all the awesome play equipment, Cantiague Park for a game of mini-golf and fun on the playground, Holtsville Ecology Center to learn about animals and even get a chance to pet a few, Adventureland, the Queens Zoo, and Dave & Buster’s.

The fourth- through 10th-grade campers, while off site, spent their days bowling at South Levittown Lanes, racing go-karts at Tiki Action Park, speeding down waterslides at Splish Splash out in Riverhead, and enjoying movies every Wednesday at Deer Park Regal Cinemas. The New York Yankees game was the most anticipated trip so far this summer. Campers enjoyed a day at the Yankees Stadium where they were featured on the Jumbotron and also got the opportunity to run the bases after the game.

While on-site, the fourth- through sixth-graders participated in Field Day, and came to camp comfy in their pj’s for Pajama Day, where they also cooked party pancakes for their kitchen activity. Campers were also visited by Nike athletes from Roosevelt Field’s Nike store, and played an exciting game of kickball out on the field. These past few weeks have been so much fun for the campers they can hardly believe the summer is almost over. Registration is still ongoing and spaces are available, so don’t miss out on the opportunity to finish the summer in a big way with the club.
