Local Fave Annie Park Misses The Cut

Golfer Annie Park, 19, of Levittown came close at the U.S. Women’s Amateur tourney, but missed the cut, finishing at 149, 9 strokes over par and just one stroke away from the match-play cut-off.

“I couldn’t make any putts, so then I had more pressure into my shots to get it closer,” Park said, “but obviously that’s not going to work.”

Apart from struggling with her putts, Park — a 2013 NCAA Division I Champion and 2014 USA Curtis Cup player — made five bogeys, as well as a double-bogey (six strokes) on the fourteenth hole.

“Toward the back, I was trying to get it back together,” Park said, “but nothing was falling in.”

For the second round of stroke-play, on Aug. 5, Park would finish the front nine in 72 strokes and the back nine in 77. Despite missing the cut by one stroke, Park says, “it was just that day.” She maintains that her performance could have been better and looks to next year to qualify for the championship round.
