Hundreds of walkers, including brain aneurysm survivors and their family and friends, are expected to attend Long Island’s Sixth Annual Brain Aneurysm Awareness Four-Mile Fun Run/Two-Mile Walkat Jones Beach State Park hosted on Sept. 27 by the Brain Aneurysm Center of the North Shore-LIJ Health System’s Cushing Neuroscience Institute (CNI) and the Brain Aneurysm Foundation (BAF), the health system announced today.
The fun-filled event promotes awareness and education, with proceeds benefiting North Shore-LIJ’s Brain Aneurysm Center and the BAF and supporting essential research to help reduce the incidence of ruptured aneurysms.
Many doctors, nurses and staff members from North Shore-LIJ’s Brain Aneurysm Center will attend to show their support of the many patients they have treated over the years. Among those who will be attending are David Chalif, MD, and Avi Setton, MD, co-directors of North Shore-LIJ’s Brain Aneurysm Center.
“One of the goals of this annual event is to increase awareness about the warning signs of a brain aneurysm,” said Dr. Chalif. “The symptoms can include severe headache, nausea, blurred or double vision, stiff neck or neck pain, pain above or behind the eye, and loss of sensation.”
Registration/check-in begins at 8:30 .a.m at Jones Beach State Park, Field 5, 1000 Ocean Parkway, Wantagh, N.Y. The walk starts at 10 a.m. and will be held rain or shine. The registration fee is $25, which includes the cost of parking and snacks. After Sept. 13, the registration fee is $30. Tee-shirts will be handed out on a first-come, first-served basis.
